Stork nest tour
For over 400 years, at least since the time of Count Ludwig XVI, storks have nested in the town of Oettingen. Count Ludwig, a great friend of the storks, had a special connection to these majestic birds. According to legend, the storks left the town after the Schmalkaldic War when the Count was forced to leave Oettingen. This event deeply moved the town. It was only with the Count's return in 1563 that the storks also returned – and they have remained to this day, a firm part of Oettingen's history. Follow the traces of the storks with the Oettingen Stork Map.
